Clearing Minefields

Heroes Remember

Transcript
We spent three months, I was with a unit, sub-unit called the Pioneers and in 1973 in the summer, there was two kids were killed in Vernon, BC, because they found these, some old World War Two ammunition and they sat on the side of the road and hit the ammunition with a rock and it blew up. So it was our Pioneer platoon and a platoon from two other units in the PPCLI and the engineers went and we spent two or three months clearing 920 acres of that old World War Two ammunition. So similar to things that would go on overseas when they have to, in the Balkans and those things, when they have to clear minefields, you know, it's maybe under a more controlled, maybe not as threatening that somebody may shoot you idea, but just as serious, just as dangerous.
