Going in to what would be considered a man’s world, I kind of felt like I would have to really prove myself and on top of that I was actually a single mom at the time and I was surprised because at the time that was when they changed the rules where divorced parents, single moms were actually allowed to join the military. So the difficult part for me was leaving my daughter behind but joining what would be considered a man’s world I thought was big and I was very nervous. You know you get through Cornwallis and you think okay that’s done, now you got your trades training, okay that’s done! I think the scariest part for me was my first posting. I didn’t know, like I mean all these people that I had been through the eleven weeks of Cornwallis with and then the trades training, I was still with them and then we had to leave each other, right? But the fortunate part for me was some of the people that I went through with actually ended up in Winnipeg which was my first posting so I still had that bit of family with me.
