For the three years Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping, Central Ontario Provincial Director, Don Bowman was on a mission to place a memorial to civilian and military Veterans in Memorial Park. On May 9, 2017, a meeting was held with Thorold Parks and Recreation Department, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17, Canadian Corps Unit 44, Canadian Corps Museum and Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping. Both a Merchant Navy memorial and United Nations Memorial were discussed and approved.
The Peacekeepers Memorial was unveiled on National Peacekeepers' Day, August 9, 2018. It was designed in consultation with several of the donors and the sandstone rock was donated by Walker Brothers Industry. The City of Thorold Public Works Department was responsible for erecting the memorial.
