Baptized Joseph-Alfred-Paul-Émile-Henri Bonin. Son of late Alfred Bonin and Philomène Brossard, of Montréal, Québec.
Enlisted in the 57th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he was posted to the 206th Battalion on 11 March 1916, to the 189th Battalion on 8 September, to the 69th Reserve Battalion on 6 October 1916 in England, where he arrived the same day, then to the 10th Reserve Battalion before being transferred to the 22nd Battalion in France, where he arrived on 21 April 1917 and joined the latter unit in the Vimy sector, Pas-de-Calais. He was killed in action on 4 July 1917 during the Battle of Lens on Hill 70.

LOOS BRITISH CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France
Loos (Loos-en-Gohelle) is a village to the north of the road from Lens to Bethune. From Lens, take the N43 towards Bethune. Arriving at Loos, turn right at CWGC sign post. The LOOS BRITISH CEMETERY is about 1 kilometre from Loos Church in the southern part of the village.
