Son of Joseph Vincent Doyle and Margory Grace, adopted by Norman John and Dora Castle.

His brother, Joseph Doyle, also served overseas in the Second World War. He survived the war.

Served in Canada, Britain, Egypt and Libya. He had 926 days of service, including 459 days overseas.
