Son of Richard Robert Campbell and Elisef Simonson, of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.

He served with the 2nd Battalion, 3rd company, 13th Platoon, South Saskatchewan Regiment – NPAM – service number L-464340, from 9 October 1940 to 8 November 1940, then as Corporal from 10 November 1940 to 15 May 1941. With the Air Force, he served in Canada, in England and in India. He had 1,421 days of service, including 1,008 overseas.
