He embarked for Great Britain on 22 October 1943 and arrived at his destination on the 30th. On 18 February 1944, he left for Italy, where he set foot on 3 March. He was reported missing on 16 September 1944 between San Martino and Palazzo des Vergers near the Rimini Line in Italy, during an assault on the Coriano ridge. His body was never found. He had 510 days' service, including 330 overseas.
