Son of Robert Marnoch Campbell and Isabella Stevenson Hollands, of Calgary, Alberta. His brother, Sergeant George H. Campbell, service number R-77936, died in Stavely, Alberta, on 12 February 1942 while serving with 5th EFTS.

Thomas served as a Corporal, service number M-522822, at Experimental Station Suffield, Alberta, as a laboratory assistant, from 16 March 1942 to 29 November 1942.
