Importante cette journée pour M. Jobin qui a perdu sa sœur alors qu’elle était très jeune et qui a fait la guerre où il a perdu des compagnons.
Guy Jobin
Mr. Jobin’s father was a chemist for a mill in Chandler, in the Gaspé. During the Depression, his father left to go work in Masson, in the Outaouais Region, and the family joined him 18 months later. They settled in Buckingham and when war was declared young Guy Jobin, a lover of ships, wanted to enlist in the Navy. He did his basic training in Québec and then went to Halifax to learn to fire guns before being sent to British Columbia. His group of Canadians left on the British aircraft carrier HMS Nabob. The ship went down the Pacific coast, crossed the Panama Canal and stopped in Virginia before arriving in England, at Liverpool. There they found the remains of a city damaged by 9 days German bombings. The Nabob was active in the British Isles throughout the war. During a mission to Scapa Flow in northern Scotland, the boat was hit by a torpedo. Upon his return to Canada, Mr. Jobin was hospitalized for awhile.

Pis, j’ai rarement manqué le 11 novembre. Pis quand j’allais à Saint-Jérôme, j’partais tout seul, j’prenais la journée d’congé, pis j’venais au cénotaphe. Ça a toujours été important pour moi. Si t’as perdu – moi j’regarde ça des fois – un être cher dans ta famille là, qui a réellement dépanné dans ta vie là, qui est décédé là, pis tu t’en vas d’temps en temps dans les cim’tières, y en a qui vont faire un tour là. Pis moi c’est un peu ça, t’sais. Mon père, là, moi, y m’a sorti du trou. J’y dois ça. Ben, mon compagnon d’armes là, t’sais, y était là. Fait qu’c’est peut-être ça aussi, t’sais qui fait que... Ma p’tite sœur qui m’est morte dans les bras là, quand j’passe à Masson là – est au cimetière de Masson, [inaudible]... Rien qu’une pensée. J’y parle, t’sais. Pis c’est un peu ça là... Un événement qui s’passe dans ta vie, comme au front, ou comme dans marine là, ben tu y penses. J’pense c’est ça.
