Long Service and Good Conduct (Army) Medal

Context

A long service medal.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal was for permanent forces of the Canadian Army with ranks as Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs) and non-commissioned members, who had 18 years of service. This medal was issued from 1902 until 1909.

Description

A circular, silver medal, 1.42 inches in diameter.. For mounting, an ornate scroll suspender is attached to the medal with a single-toe claw.

The obverse shows King Edward VII in Field Marshal's uniform, facing left, and the legend: EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR.

The inscription FOR / LONG SERVICE / AND / GOOD CONDUCT appears on the reverse in four lines with the word CANADA above.

The crimson ribbon is 1.25 inches wide, with a white edge stripe.

Historical Notes

  • There were 150 awarded to the Canadian permanent Army.
  • The recipient's rank, name, and regiment are engraved around the rim.
