Served as a private in the O.L. C. at Somerset, England, from 1928 to 1931, as a lieutenant in the army in the 25th Norfolk Regiment, Field Brigade, Royal Canadian Artillery, at Simcoe, Ontario, from 1935 to 1937, then in Ontario and England. He had 401 days of service, including 145 overseas.
