Baptized Joseph Jean Paul Yvain Larivée. Son of Alexandre Larivée and Rosalba (aka Isalba) Douville of St-Hilaire, Rouville, Québec.

Enlisted at the 4th District Military Depot on August 25, 1943, he sailed for Great Britain, where he arrived on September 1. On February 18, 1944, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment, sailed for the Mediterranean with Force M, and landed in Italy on March 3. On the 12th, he was assigned to the 4th Battalion. On April 18, 1944, he was wounded in action by shrapnel to the chest. He remained hospitalized until May 5. On June 19, he was attached to the 1st Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment. On September 4, he was wounded again during an assault on Mount Marano while attempting to capture the Palazzo des Vergers, north of Marano. He was transported to the 5th Casualty Clearing Station in San Giovanni, where he died on the 22nd. He was buried on the 24th at the San Giovanni Military Cemetery before being exhumed around October 30 and reburied at the British Empire Cemetery in Gradara.
