Saunderson, Charles Edwin - Bombardier. Born 24th May, 1920, at Winnipeg. Educated at Dauphin, Man. Entered the service of the Bank 24th March, 1939. Served at Dauphin. Enlisted 18th September, 1940, from that branch in Canadian Army. Served on Quartermaster's Staff at Military Training Centre, Winnipeg. Transferred to R.C.A. in February, 1941. Overseas in June, 1941. Served with 71st Battery, 8th Army Field Regiment, from December, 1941. With Central Mediterranean Forces from March, 1944. Recommended for commission and about to proceed on Officer' Training Course in September, 1944. Killed in action in Italy 5th September, 1944. Buried in permanent cemetery at Gradera, Italy. <br><i>From a memorial booklet prepared by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.</i>

Saunderson, Charles Edwin - Bombardier. Born 24th May, 1920, at Winnipeg. Educated at Dauphin, Man. Entered the service of the Bank 24th March, 1939. Served at Dauphin. GRADARA WAR CEMETERY Italy
GRADARA WAR CEMETERY is situated in the Commune of Gradara in the Province of Pesaro, at a distance of about 1.5 kilometres from the shores of the Adriatic. To reach the GRADARA WAR CEMETERY from Highway A14 (Bologna-Taranto), exit at Cattolica, which is the nearest town and a seaside resort. The Cemetery is on the main road 5 kilometres south west of the town.
The cemetery occupies a unique position on a hillside which was terraced for agriculture, each row of graves taking up one terrace. The site for the cemetery was chosen in November 1944 and it contains the graves of casualties incurred during the advance from Ancona to Rimini (which broke the Gothic Line) and in the heavy fighting around Rimini, which was taken by the Allies on 21st September 1944.
