Son of Antoine Alphonse Delaney and Julie Euphrasie Thériault, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Québec. Brother of Gunner Frank Delaney, regimental number D-128085, of the 50th Battery, 4th Medium Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery, and Private Daniel Delany, regimental number C-5301, of the 1st Canadian Ordnance Reinforcement Unit. They survived the fighting in Europe.
Served in Québec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland with Force W, Hong Kong with Force C. He had 479 days of service, including 55 overseas.
1939-1945 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal 1939-1945, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp.

Memorial
Rifleman JOSEPH DELANEY is one of 20 members of the Royal Rifles of Canada, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps who are commemorated on this panel of the Sai Wan Memorial. He was one of 290 Canadian soldiers killed during the defense of Hong Kong, from December 8th to December 25th, 1941. -
Inscription
Dedicatory inscription of the SAI WAN MEMORIAL. This memorial bears the names of more than 2,000 Commonwealth servicemen, including 228 Canadians. -
