Son of Benoit Pépin and Isabel Tanner, of St-Lazare, Manitoba.
A Cree Métis, he enlisted in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, served in Manitoba, Ontario, transferred on October 22nd, 1941 to the 1st Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers to fight in Hong Kong with C Force. He had 186 days of service, including 53 overseas.
To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named Peppin Lake located northwest of Wekusko in his honor in 1973.

Private LOUIS PEPPIN is one of 27 members of the Winnipeg Grenadiers, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps who are commemorated on this panel of the Sai Wan Memorial. He was one of 290 Canadian soldiers killed during the defense of Hong Kong, from December 8th to December 25th, 1941. -
