Son of Chester Norwood Pontius and Opal Irene Bennett, of Moosehorn, Manitoba.

Served in Manitoba, Jamaica with Y Force and Hong Kong with C Force. He had 815 days of service, including 53 overseas.

To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named Pontius Lake located east of Lake Granville in his honor do 1975.
