AMBON WAR CEMETERY Indonesia

Ambon island lies close to the south west coast of Ceram in the Molucca Group of islands. It is reached by flight from Jakarta with connecting flights at Ujung Pandang in Sulawesi (Celebes).

The AMBON WAR CEMETERY is on the opposite side of the bay to the airport and can be reached by taxi travelling around the bay to Ambon town. There is a ferry service across the bay which brings you to Ambon town. The AMBON WAR CEMETERY lies on rising ground 5 kilometres north-east of Ambon on the main road to Galala.

A new road from the airport to Ambon town is due to by-pass the cemetery which is at present passed on the way to the town.

There is a new one way traffic system which forces a slight detour to the cemetery.

Ambon being a relatively small island, the cemetery, known locally as the Australian Cemetery can easily be found.
