Baptized Joseph Donat Alfred Ellemberg. Son of Donat Ellemberg and Dorilda Bélanger, of Montréal, Québec. Husband of Yvette Fullum, of Nitro, St-Timothée, Beauharnois, Québec. Father of Raymond, Denise, Gisèle et Micheline Ellemberg.
Enlisted in the 4th District Depot of the Fusiliers Mont-Royal, he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion on July 4, 1942. He was an undisciplined soldier. On December 14, 1943, he embarked for Great Britain and arrived at his destination on the 21st. On February 17, 1944, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment of the Force M. He sailed for Italy that same day and landed on the Italian mainland on March 3. On January 5, 1945, he was reported missing near Cotignola, Ravenna, along the banks of the Senio River. Around January 15, 1946, his body was found near Cotignola and temporarily buried. Around August 19, 1946, his remains were exhumed and reburied in Faenza, Italy. He had served 832 days, including 356 as of January 5, 1945.
