Baptized Joseph Edgar Adéodat Guichard, he served as Edgar Adéodat. Son of Cléophas Guichard and Marie Anne Dionne, of Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs of L’Isle-Verte, Rivière-du-Loup, Québec.
Previously, he served in the military under the 1940 Mobilization Act – NRMA – service number E-62023, from July 31, 1941, to January 26, 1942, to enlist in HMCS Montcalm in Quebec City with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve – service number V-3976. After 50 days, he was discharged on March 16, 1942, for inefficiency in service. On the 17th, he enlisted at Camp Valcartier, Quebec, with the Fusiliers du Saint-Laurent, service number E-57766. On September 24, he embarked for Great Britain, where he arrived on October 7. On January 14, 1943, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment. On June 15, after being incorporated into Force M, he embarked for the Mediterranean to participate in the Allied landing in Sicily, Operation Husky. On July 10, he landed on the beach at Pachino around noon with the second assault wave. On September 10, he set foot on the Italian mainland at Reggio di Calabria. He was killed in action on December 14, 1943, by machine-gun fire during an assault near Lanciano, Chieti. He was temporarily buried there on the 19th. He was later exhumed and reburied at the Moro River Cemetery, near Ortona. He had served for 638 days, including 446 days overseas.

MORO RIVER CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY Italy
The Moro River Canadian War Cemetery lies in the locality of San Donato in the Commune of Ortona, Province of Chieti, and is sited on high ground near the sea just east of the main Adriatic coast road (SS16). The cemetery can be reached from Rome on the autostrada A25 (Rome-Pescara) by branching on the autostrada A14 and leaving it at Ortona. The approach road to the cemetery from the main road passes under an arch forming part of the little church of San Donato. The cemetery is permanently open and may be visited anytime.
