Son of Adolph Hamilton and Marie Aimée (also known as Emma) Métivier, of Matane, Quebec, and a resident of Harlington, Ontario.

Brother of Private Andrew Hamilton. He survived combat during World War II.

Enlisted at the 3rd Military Depot, he transferred to the Voltigeurs de Québec on June 9, 1943. He sailed for Great Britain on July 21 and arrived on the 28th. Assigned to Force M in the Mediterranean theater of operations on October 25, 1943, he sailed for Italy on the 27th and was transferred to the 4th Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment on the 28th. He landed on the Italian mainland on November 9 and joined his new unit at the front on January 12, 1944. Wounded by a blast following an explosion on February 19 in Crecchio, Sardinia, he died on the 20th in San Vito.
