Additional information
Baptized Joseph René Horace Drolet, he served under the name René Drolet. Son of Horace Eugène Drolet and Yvonne Boiteau of Quebec City, Quebec. Brother of Private Roland Drolet, service number E-20322, and Robert Drolet, service number E-42032, both of the Royal 22nd Regiment. They survived World War II.

On September 3, 1939, he enlisted in the Voltigeurs de Québec militia – NPAM – serial number 982. On the 20th, he transferred to the regular forces of this unit and took the serial number E-23568, declaring that he was born in 1921.From April 4 to June 20, 1941, he was loaned to the Veterans Guard of Canada based at Camp Valcartier, Quebec. Somewhat undisciplined. On January 1, 1943, he was at Camp Sussex, New Brunswick, and on May 28, 1943, at Camp Aldershot, Nova Scotia. On July 21, he embarked for Great Britain, where he arrived on the 28th. On October 27, he set sail for the Mediterranean and landed in Italy on November 9, 1943. He was killed in action on September 1, 1944, during the Battle of Borgo Santa Maria near Pesaro, where he was temporarily buried on the 2nd in grave number 7. On August 22, 1945, his body was exhumed and reburied in the British Empire Cemetery in Montecchio.

MONTECCHIO WAR CEMETERY Italy

The War Cemetery lies in the locality of Montecchio in the Commune of Montelabbate (Province of Pesaro). It stands on rising ground just North of the main road from Pesaro to Urbino, about 12 kilometres west of Pesaro. If approaching by car, take the road 423 from Pesaro to Urbino, following the signs for Montecchio. Just before entering the town, the Cemetery will be seen on the right hand side of the road.
