Born Joseph Adrien Fournier. Son of Blaise Fournier and Marie Adèle Coulombe, of St. Quentin, Restigouche, New Brunswick. Brother of Private Joseph Fournier, training in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in July 1944.
Under the National Mobilization of Resources Act of 1940 (NMRA), he reported to the 7th District Depot in Fredericton, New Brunswick, call-up number H-41094, and was enlisted on July 7, 1943, serial number G-604955. On August 10, 1943, he was transferred to the regular forces in Edmundston, New Brunswick, with service number G-63386. On November 25, 1943, he sailed for Great Britain, arriving on December 2. On February 18, 1944, he boarded a troop transport with Force M. On the 19th, the ship weighed anchor and Fournier was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment. He landed in Italy. Around March 10, he was incorporated into the 4th Battalion on the 12th. He was killed in action on May 21, 1944, during an assault on the Hitler Line in the Liri Valley. He was initially reported missing. He was temporarily buried on the 23rd in the cemetery of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade Group. Around December 1, his body was exhumed and reburied in Cassino. He had served 286 days, including 178 overseas. He was killed the day before his 22nd birthday.

CASSINO WAR CEMETERY Italy
CASSINO WAR CEMETERY lies in the Commune of Cassino, Province of Frosinone, 139 kilometres south-east of Rome. It is situated in the valley of the River Liri immediately below the southern spurs of the central Apennines. Above it at a distance of one kilometre is the dominating hill on which stands the Abbey of Monte Cassino, founded by St. Benedict in the year 529 on the site of an ancient temple of Apollo.
If approaching the CASSINO WAR CEMETERY by road, follow the Highway A2 from Rome to Naples and leave it at the Cassino exit. After passing the pay booths, follow the sign for Cassino. At the traffic lights, after a block of flats, turn right towards the locality of S. Angelo and the CWGC signs will then be seen.
