From newspaper article, July 1944 EXETER SOLDIER DIES IN FRANCE "Mr. and Mrs. James A. Nichol of Exeter have received official word that their second son, L.Cpl. Gordon Ivan Nichol, died in France on June 11. The cause of his death is yet unknown. He was in his 25th year. L.Cpl. Nichol was born at Bluevale in 1921, with his parents, moved to Grey Township where he received his primary eduation and his high school education in Brussels. In June, 1941, he enlisted and in November of that year he went overseas." -
