Memorial plaque dedicated and unveiled in The Rose Garden in Ermin Street, Stratton St. Margaret, Swindon in memory of Norman Barbeau whose Spitfire crashed almost opposite in December 1941. -

Blessing of the plaque on Saturday 23rd April, 2005 -
Canadian Bench
A photo of a metal bench erected by the Parish Council. The bench is opposite of the tree split by the Spitfire in the crash. The bench has two maple leaves and it is painted with Canadian colours. This was erected by the councillors who were attending an exhibition elsewhere, and who decided on the spur of the moment to purchase it in honour of their Canadian hero. -

He is honoured by the plaque in the special rose garden at Stratton St Margaret, Swindon, Wiltshire. One wreath was placed by the British Legion and the other by a brother and sister who witnessed the aftermath of the crash and who had always wanted to commemorate the death of Sgt Barbeau. The small crosses seem to bear messages and were probably erected by local residents. -
