Son of Thomas Blakcmore and Bessie Laura Anderson of Channel, Newfoundland.

On March 29, 1942, the SS Bateau, a member of convoy PQ-13, was shot and torpedoed by the German destroyer Z-26 in the Barents Sea, while en route from Iceland to Murmansk, USSR. Of the crew of 46 sailors, 40 lost their lives. The six survivors were rescued by HMS Eclipse (H08) and landed in Murmansk.
