On December 2, 1941, the SS Fjord was sailing alone when she was torpedoed at about 8:33 p.m. by U-557 off Estepona Point, Spain, and sank very quickly, position 35°59'N/05°17'W. Her captain, ten Norwegians, one Estonian, one Briton and one Canadian lost their lives. Eleven survivors were in one boat and nine in another and reached the coast near Estepona Point.
