Son of Harry Benjamin Evans and Elyse Eleanor Hewitt of Vassar, Manitoba. Brother of Private Henry George Evans, who fought in the Pacific. He survived the fighting in the Second World War.
Enlisted in Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, transferred to the 1st Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers on October 20th, 1941, served in Manitoba, Hong Kong with C Force, Japan as a prisoner of war. He had 923 days of service, including 757 overseas.
To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named Evans Rapids, located on an unnamed river on Barrington Lake, in his honor in 1995.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan
YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
