Served in Manitoba, Jamaica with Y Force, Hong Kong with C Force, POW in Japan. He had 1,662 days of service, including 891 overseas.
To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named Furey Island located on the Winnipeg River in his honor in 1973.
