Additional information

Son of François Hamelin and Hélène Delorme, of Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Brother of Alice, Agnes and Private Alcide Hamelin, who fought overseas in this conflict. He survived the war.

Enrolled in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Winnipeg, Manitoba, transferred on October 20th, 1941 to the 1st Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers to serve in Hong Kong with C Force. He had 878 days of service, including 774 overseas.

To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named Hamelin Island located on Lake Laurie in his honor in 1995.
