Son of Robert Leo Splude and Jean Ann Stewart, of Moncton, New Brunswick. Robert Leo served in France, as Corporal, during the First World War with the 45th Company, Canadian Forestry Corps, service number 297885. Brother of Private William Stuart Splude (1918-1986); he survived the war.

George Raymond served in Québec, in New Brunswick, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Hong Kong with Force C, where he died in captivity.
