He was baptized “John Augustus Alexander” Thompson and he got married as “John William” Thompson. Son of John William Thompson and Mary Mann. Husband of Hazel Helena Noble, of Dawsonville, New Brunswick.

Enrolled with the North Shore (NB) Regiment, he served in New Brunswick; deployed to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada on 6 October 1940, he served in Newfoundland with Force W, in Québec, in Hong Kong with Force C, where he died as prisoner of war. He had 854 days of service, including 359 overseas.
