Son of Pierre Bérubé and Elmire Ouellet from Mont-Joli, Montmagny, Québec.

He was wounded in action for the first time when he received a shrapnel wound to the back during the fighting between Potenza and Sangro, Italy, on 6 October 1943. On 16 March 1944, he was wounded again near Monte Casino, Italy. He subsequently took part in the fighting for the Hitler Line, the Gothic Line in the Borgo Santa Maria sector, and the Rimini Line in the San Martino, San Lorenzo and San Fortunato sectors, then in Cesena. He was killed in action on 2 December 1944 on the banks of the river Lamone, Italy. He was buried in a cemetery to the north-west of Russi, along the road to Ravenna, where he will be reburied after the war.
