Additional information
On 12 June 1941, at 1:22 am, U-553 fired a torpedo at convoy OG-64 and hit the Susan Maersk, straggler, some 370 miles (596 km) north-north-east of the Azores. The ship sank in 90 seconds, in position 44°45'N/25°15'W. The captain, the 22 crew members and a gunner lost their lives. The attack left no survivors.
