Burial/memorial information
On 14 February 1944, the Salviking was en route from Colombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) to Addu Atoll in the Maldives when she was torpedoed and sunk by U-168 270 miles (435 km) south-west of Colombo, in position 03°30'N/76°30'E. The shipwreck claimed the lives of 27 of the 55 crew members. The 28 survivors were rescued by an Indian trawler.
