Burial/memorial information
On 30 May 1941, the Cairndale was torpedoed by the Italian submarine Guglielmo Marconi (MN-17) and sunk approximately 100 miles (161 km) north-west of Casablanca, Morocco, and 170 nautical miles (196 miles/310 km) north-west of Cape Trafalgar, in the North Atlantic, position 35°19'N/08°33'W. Five crew members lost their lives.
