In October 1942, Pennington Court sailed from Saint John, New Brunswick, to Belfast, Northern Ireland, with convoy SC-103. While away from the other ships, on the 9th at 9:01 pm, she was torpedoed by U-254 south-east of Cape Farewell, Greenland. At 11.10 pm, she received her Coup de grâce and sank in position 58°18'N/27°55'W. On board the lifeboats, the captain, the 40 crew members and the 4 gunners were never seen again.
