Son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pott. of Montreal, Province of Quebec.

On 17 January 1942, Octavian was en route from Galveston, Texas, to St John's, New Brunswick, when she was torpedoed at 11:21 am by U-203 and sunk off Cape Race, Newfoundland, position 45°00'N/60°00'W. All 17 crew members perished. The ship was reported missing when she was due to arrive on the 18th.
