His full name is James Lorne Beatty Smith.

Son of John Smith and Matilda Jane Butsch from Penetanguishene, Simcoe, Ontario.

On 4 May 1943, the Lorient, en route from London, England, to New York, got away from convoy ONS-5 and was torpedoed by U-125. She sank south of Cape Farewell, Greenland, position 54°04'N/44°18'W. The captain, 40 crew members and 5 gunners lost their lives. There were no survivors.
