Son of John Anderson McGinnis and Pearl Ethel Marie Lanning; stepson of Maude Edith May Owen, of Govan, Saskatchewan.
Brother of signaller John Asa McGinnis, regimental number L-6510, 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade of Signals, Canadian Army. He survived the war.
He enlisted with the Saskatchewan Light Infantry in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, transferred on October 25th, 1941 to the 1st Battalion, Winnipeg Grenadiers, to fight in Hong Kong with C Force, and was a prisoner of war in Japan. He had 1,063 days of service, including 911 overseas.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan
YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
