Enlisted in the 90th Rifles (Winnipeg Regiment) - NPAM - as a bugler from 1938 to September 18th, 1939, then to the regular forces of the 1st Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers for service in Manitoba, Jamaica with Y Force, Hong Kong with C Force, Japan as a POW. He had 2,127 days of service, including 1,357 overseas.
To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named McLeod Point located west of the shore of Lake Opachuanau in his honor in 1989.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan
YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
