Son of George Wesley Murray and Vera Mable Smith, of Walled Lake, Michigan. He stated being born in 1922 when he enlisted.

Enlisted with the Essex Scottish Regiment, he was deployed to the Royal Rifles of Canada on 23 October 1941. He served in Ontario and in Hong Kong with Force C. He had 660 days of service, including 554 overseas.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
