Son of James Ernest Wood and Ella Kerr MacDonald, of Lac-Mégantic, Québec. James Ernest enrolled on 21 May 1918 with the 259th Battalion (Canadian Rifles), Siberian Expeditionary Corps, service number 2697765. He served in Québec and Vladivostok, Russia, where he returned from on 29 May 1919.
Donald Gordon stated being born in 1921 when he enlisted. He served in Québec, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Hong Kong with Force C and in Japan as prisoner of war. He had 1,136 days of service, including 56 overseas.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan
YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
