Cst. Hutchinson was from Nepean, Ontario. He was posted to Craik, SK and then took a compassionate transfer to Ottawa in 1985. Cst. Hutchinson enjoyed playing golf and spending as much time as he could with his family. With his family he enjoyed skating, cross-country skiing, fishing, waterskiing, and swimming. During the Oka Crisis, Cst. Hutchinson was assigned to man a barricade at Chateauguay. Protestors started to throw mini-blocks and Cst. Hutchinson was hit on the head. He died a year later. He was married to Kim and they had 3 children: Laurie, Stephanie, and Stacie. He is buried in Capital Memorial Cemetery in Ottawa.
