Cpl. Johanson was born at Wishart, Saskatchewan and raised in British Columbia. All of his service was in Alberta. He was posted to Jasper, Evansburg, Edson, Stony Plain, Bonneyville, Faust and Lethbridge. Cpl. Johanson was patrolling in a police car with A/Cst. Abel when it came head on into a half-ton pickup that was driving the wrong way with no lights on. The occupants of both vehicles were killed. Cpl. Johanson was married to Iris and they had 3 children.
