Sgt. Wallace served in the First World War as a sniper with the Gordon Highlanders. He was killed at the Eastern Gate of Banff National Park, while attempting to apprehend three robber suspects.

Sgt. Wallace had a wife named Helen. He is buried in Calgary and there is a street named after him at Depot.
