Constable Macdonald was originally from Nova Scotia. He was a great athlete and swimmer, and known to be a very powerful man. Constable Macdonald drowned while on special duty near the mouth of the Indian River, east of Herschel Island, Arctic Ocean. He was aboard the American schooner Maid of Orleans. His body was not recovered.
