Constable Gibson was a farmer prior to engaging with the NWMP. He was killed in the skirmish at Duck Lake, Northwest Territories, when their party of Mounted Police & Prince Albert Volunteers was ambushed. He was posthumously awarded the North West Canada Medal (1885) and Clasp. Constable Gibson is buried in St. Mary's Anglican in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
