Son of Ernest Bernard and Beulah Vera McWilliams, Holdfast, Saskatchewan. Husband of Elsie Elizabeth (née Gerock) McWilliams and father of Arlene Gail of Edmonton, Alberta. Brother of Clayton Edgerson, Archie Gordon, Isabelle Lorraine, Rose Elaine and Doris Janet. Served in the RCAF (Special Reserve) from 28 Aug 1941 to 4 July 1945. Reenlisted with the RCAF Regular Force and served from 4 December 1946 until his death.
