Served as a gunner with the 2nd/78th Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery in Red Deer, Alberta, from August 1940 to January 1941.
He served in Canada and Great Britain. He had 546 days of service, 173 days of which were overseas.

F/Sgt. Carroll was the son of Mr. & Mrs. J. E. Carroll, Red Deer, Alberta.
Information from the crash from www.lostbombers.co.uk
Airborne 2306 29Jul42 from Topcliffe. Shot down by a night-fighter (Oblt Reinhold Exkardt, 7./NJG3) and crashed 0300 at Corbais (Brabant), 35 km SE of Brussels. All are buried in Corbais Communal Cemetery. Oblt Eckardt was himself shot down by return fire from the Halifax and in baling out his parachute became entangled in the tail plane of his Me110 and he was killed.
