Son of Louis and Cora Louise (née McLean) Onufrichuk of Surrey, British Columbia. Husband of Ann Mary Sochan (née Mareczko) of Victoria, British Columbia.
Lieutenant Onufrichuk had one sister, Martha Anne, wife of Captain Dean Cloutier, fellow officer and friend also serving with the 3 PPCLI. Carl attended southwood Public School and Vincent Massey High School, Windsor, Ontario and graduated with a B.SC degree in 1975 from the University of Windsor. He then enlisted in the PPCLI and received a direct commission as a 1st Lieutenant. Carls' interests were the military, serving as a cadet in High School. He then went on to serve 7 years with the Essex and Kent Scottish in Windsor, Ontario attaining the rank of Master Warrant Oficer.
